The Regional Universities Network (RUN) congratulates Minister Clare for the appointment of the inaugural Australian Tertiary Education Commission (ATEC) Commissioners.
RUN Chief Executive Officer Alec Webb described the appointments as a significant milestone in delivering long-term reform and coordination to Australia’s tertiary education system.
“The establishment of the ATEC has represented one of the most significant reforms to Australia’s tertiary education architecture.
“We commend Minister Clare for his appointment of Commissioners with deep expertise across education, regional Australia, vocational education and TAFE, and public policy,” said Mr Webb.
RUN welcomes the appointment of Professor Barney Glover as Chief Commissioner, noting his longstanding contribution to the Australian higher education sector including his work on the Australian Universities Accord, and his role as Interim Chief Commissioner of the ATEC.
“Professor Glover brings exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and a strong understanding of the critical role universities play in driving productivity, opportunity and innovation.
“His lived experience across the higher education sector is welcomed, and we acknowledge his tireless work in leading Jobs and Skills Australia,” said Mr Webb.
RUN celebrates the appointment of the Hon Fiona Nash as a permanent ATEC Commissioner, recognising her relentless advocacy for regional Australia and deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing regional communities.
“Ms Nash has been one of regional Australia’s strongest and most effective advocates, and her appointment ensures regional voices, students, universities, and communities will be front and centre in ATEC’s policy deliberations.
“Regional Australians can rest assured that their voices and perspectives will be passionately represented by Ms Nash as an ATEC Commissioner alongside her continuing duties as Regional Education Commissioner,” said Mr Webb.
RUN also congratulates David Coltman and Stephen Duckett on their appointments as ATEC Commissioners.
“The success of Australia’s tertiary education system depends on ensuring all Australians can access high-quality education and training, regardless of where they live.
“RUN looks forward to working closely with the inaugural Commissioners and the Government to help deliver the ambitions of the Universities Accord and strengthen educational opportunity across the country,” said Mr Webb.
