The Regional Universities Network (RUN) congratulates new and returning Albanese Government Ministers and looks forward to working with them to improve the university services relied upon by regional Australians.

RUN congratulates the Hon. Jason Clare MP on his re-appointment as Minister for Education.

Chief Executive Officer of RUN, Mr Alec Webb said that during the first term of the Albanese Government, Minister Clare played a vital role in facilitating the Universities Accord process and began implementing many of its important reforms.

“Having committed to implement the findings of the Australian Universities Accord, now is the right time to legislate and deliver the meaningful reforms that are vital for regional students and regional universities.

“Regional universities are ready to work constructively with Minister Clare in establishing the Australian Tertiary Education Commission, provide Needs-Based Funding, and a properly implemented Managed Growth Funding system.

“The Australian Universities Accord found that regional universities play a key role in supporting Australia’s economic growth, workforce resilience, and social cohesion, particularly in rural and regional communities and it is therefore imperative that these reforms acknowledge and support the transformative impact of regional universities to all Australians,” said Mr Webb.

RUN is pleased to see the creation of a dedicated portfolio overseeing Australia’s crucial international education market.

“The Australian international education market is an important industry not just for universities, but for all Australians, and it is vital that regional communities and universities are able to benefit from Australia’s world leading reputation for international education.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Assistant Minister the Hon. Julian Hill MP, and we wish him all the best with this new portfolio,” said Mr Webb.

RUN also welcomes and congratulates Senator the Hon. Tim Ayres for his appointment as Minister for Industry and Innovation, and Minister for Science, and congratulate the following Ministers on their reappointment:

  • the Hon. Andrew Giles MP as Minister for Skills and Training,
  • the Hon. Catherine King MP as Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, and
  • the Hon. Kristy McBain MP as Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories.
