The Regional Universities Network (RUN) congratulates the appointment of Senator the Hon Jonathon Duniam as Shadow Minister for Education and Sam Birrel as Shadow Minister for Regional Education in the Coalition’s newly formed shadow ministry.

RUN Chief Executive Officer, Alec Webb, said that regional universities are ready to work constructively with the shadow ministry to ensure that education policy recognises the important role of regional universities.

“Regional universities are the backbone of educational and economic advancement in regional Australia, and we look forward to engaging with Senator the Hon Duniam and Mr Birrel MP to further strengthen and enhance the university services that regional Australians rely on.

“RUN remains ready to work constructively with all political and policy stakeholders to ensure that the key accord priorities – such as establishing the Australian Tertiary Education Commission, introducing Needs-Based Funding, and implementing a fair Managed Growth model – remain front and centre and address the needs of regional universities and regional Australians”, said Mr Webb.

RUN extends its appreciation to all outgoing Shadow Ministers for their contributions during the previous term of government. In particular, RUN acknowledges the leadership and dedication of Senator the Hon Sarah Henderson during her tenure as Shadow Minister for Education.

“Senator Henderson has been a passionate and committed advocate for regional education, demonstrating strong leadership and dedication to ensure the needs and interests of regional universities remain a priority. We sincerely thank her for her invaluable contributions to the portfolio.,” Mr Webb stated.
