The Regional Universities Network (RUN) congratulates The Hon. Jason Clare MP as the new Minister for Education and look forward to constructively working with him.

We also congratulate The Hon. Catherine King MP on her appointment as Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.

Regional universities play a vital role in driving Australia’s economic and social prosperity forward and we look forward to working with the Ministers in ensuring regional Australians will benefit from the life changing opportunities that regional universities provide.

Chair of RUN, Professor Nick Klomp warmly welcomed and congratulated the new Ministers noting their longstanding interest in higher education and regional development.

“I warmly congratulate the Ministers on their appointment and am pleased to acknowledge their commitment to higher education and regional development.

“Regional universities provide opportunities to regional Australians that would otherwise be unavailable to them, alongside providing vital community services and impactful research.

“Regional universities contribute to the economic, social, and cultural wellbeing of not only regional Australia, but Australia as a whole and it is paramount that they are continued to be supported and enabled to provide their critical roles in regional Australia.

“RUN looks forward to working constructively with the new Ministry to ensure areas of importance to regional, rural and remote Australia are progressed and that the importance of regional universities is reflected in higher education policy,” said Professor Klomp.
