RUN supports the role of a strong and effective sectoral regulator that operates in a principled, proportionate, risk-based manner in accordance with the powers established under the TEQSA Act and in alignment with the Higher Education Standards Framework (the Thresholds Standards). RUN also supports the role played by the Higher Education Standards Panel (HESP) and its responsibilities related to the standards for delivery of higher education in Australia. The core role of TEQSA has rightfully been, and should continue to be, to regulate Australia’s universities against the Threshold Standards. As such, RUN does not believe there is a case for an expansion of TEQSA’s current legislative powers.
