The Regional Universities Network (RUN) warmly welcomes the appointment of The Hon Alan Tudge MP as the new Minister for Education and Youth, and sincerely thanks the former Minister, the Hon Dan Tehan MP, for his great contribution in the education portfolio.

The Chair of RUN, Prof Helen Bartlett, said that, as Minister for Education, Dan Tehan had provided a much needed and long overdue focus on regional higher education.

“Minister Tehan has been a highly effective Minister for Education, and has worked collaboratively with the sector in implementing reforms.

“His advocacy for equality of opportunity in education for regional Australians has been reflected in implementation of key priorities from the Napthine Review of Regional, Rural and Remote Education in the Government’s Job-ready Graduates package.

“He should be congratulated on successfully steering the legislation through Parliament,” Professor Bartlett said.

“RUN wishes Dan Tehan every future success in the Trade, Tourism and Investment portfolio.

“We congratulate Alan Tudge on his appointment as Minister for Education and Youth and look forward to working with him in the implementation of the Job-ready Graduates reforms.

“His experience working in immigration, population and cities will give him an important perspective on the need to encourage growth in the regions,” Professor Bartlett said.

“Addressing equity in education for regional Australians will take a generation. It is important for the nation’s cohesion and success that regional education remains a focus in future education policy and programs.”
